CAPTURING MOMENTS IN TIME - Art Competition/Exhibition - Mount Perry Arts

CALLING ALL ARTISTS!
ENTER TO WIN!

BRINGING ARTS TO THE FORE

The Mount Perry Arts Group Inc is putting out the call for artists to enter a large-scale Art Competition & Exhibition, to be held later this year.

Offering category prizes of up to $1000 for 11 classifications of work, the entered art pieces will go on display on October 11th and 12th in Mount Perry, with judging to be held and winners announced at the opening on Friday night.

The town is set to be bustling that weekend, as it is also the time for the Annual Car and Bike Show, as well as the Axemen and Sawyers Woodchop event, both to be held this year on Saturday 12th October. The Art Show will straddle two venues – with the Entrant works going on display in the Community Hall in Mount Perry, while an exhibition of works by the three judges opens in the adjacent Gallery and will run for 6 weeks.

Entitled “Capturing Moments in Time” entries are open in these categories: PORTRAIT OF A LOCAL IDENTITY and OPEN sections, (each with a $1000 1st prize); LOCAL ARTIST section; MINIATURES; INSTALLATIONS; MIXED MEDIUM; AGES 5 TO 9; AGES 10 to 14; AGES 15 to 18; PHOTOGRAPHY and ENCOURAGEMENT AWARD.

The show promises to be a great stimulus for creativity in the local region and beyond, as entries are open to all. The Local Artist section is exclusively for entrants in the North Burnett Region and carries a $500 first prize. As the long-standing efforts of many individuals in communities are valued, especially in regional areas, the Portrait section seeks to immortalise local identities from the North Burnett and capture their painted images for posterity.

Described as “a boon for regional art” the show will encourage the creativity of both established and budding artists, across its wide range of categories.

The judging panel of three comprises renowned artists Colleen Helmore and Sue Robinson who each have an internationally recognised status in the art world, together with the accomplished Holly Milner from the Sunshine Coast, who will be mentored in the specifics of judging by the two, more experienced artists.

Event Co-ordinator June McCotter from the Mount Perry Gallery said the event is already receiving much active interest from galleries, and particularly portrait artists, around the wider area, and that this is ultimately culturally beneficial to the North Burnett region. She expressed the thanks of the Arts Group to the competition sponsors, who are providing a total prize pool of $4,480 across 11 categories.

Entry forms will be distributed more widely in the coming days and are available now through the Mount Perry Arts Group Inc. by contacting the June on 0477 194 605

Exotic Trails - An exhibition by Carolyn Ward

Our recent exhibition by Carolyn Ward had a successful run at the Shelley Kelly Gallery in Mount Perry, from July to September 2023.

Carolyn was born in a small mining town in Yorkshire, and although showing some artistic promise in school, was discouraged by her parents from taking up art studies or pursuing her creativity. It wasn't until much later in life, after moving to Australia, that she rediscovered her gifts.

Her vibrant pieces took gallery visitors to places of imagination and surprise, and were well received by all. Several pieces were sold on opening day and through the exhibition.

In celebration of Carolyn's debut exhibition, a small Art & Verse book was created and printed, preserving some of Carolyn's works, accompanied by poetry penned by Mount Perry Arts Group President, Helen Downs.

Here are some glimpses ...

And here are some sample pages from the book "Exotic Trails", produced from the exhibition work...
(Limited copies available through the Mount Perry Gallery.)

Executive returns for another year

At the recent AGM of the Mount Perry Arts Group Inc., the Executive Committee (Helen, Vivienne, Lesley and Geoff) were returned to their positions for another year.

The gallery has held eight exhibitions since the last AGM and has been proud to present several debut artists to the exhibition scene. We also carried out several print-related projects under a grant from the Bendigo Bank, and put up signature FLORENCE BROADHURST wallpaper in the gallery building, under an earlier grant from Evolution Mining.

A new resolution now gives a discount on the exhibition commission fee for paid up members who exhibit.

All memberships are due for renewal on 1st February each year.

SUBSCRIBE or check our blog pages for glimpses from past and current exhibitions as they are posted.

EXOTIC TRAILS - Sat 15th July 2pm

ART OPENING - MOUNT PERRY

SAT 15 TH JULY 2PM
The Mount Perry Arts Group Inc. is proud to announce the
DEBUT EXHIBITION of Artist, Carolyn Ward, entitled:

EXOTIC TRAILS

“A lovely collection of visual stimuli

that inspires the imagination”

Carolyn’s works bring “a breath of fresh air for the mind’s eye”, taking the viewer to exotic themes and places where the imagination can relax and play for a while.

Carolyn Ward grew up in a small mining town in the County of Yorkshire, in England. Although she showed artistic talent in her school years, the average expectation was to work at the coal mines or textile factories so she was discouraged from believing art was something she could pursue.

Half a lifetime of changes later - experiencing travel, learning, growth, and emergence from grieving her husband’s death, Carolyn revisited her latent talents, found a place of balance, and began to unleash a world of colour, creativity and satisfaction back into her life. Now, with this exhibition, her artwork takes a step out into the world that it so colourfully reflects.

In celebration of her debut exhibition, the Gallery has produced a limited run of small, hardcover books featuring artworks by Carolyn Ward, and short verses inspired by the art, written by Helen Downs. The books will be available for sale at the exhibition.

This exotic and beautiful exhibition opens on SATURDAY 15th JULY at the Shelley Kelly Gallery, Mount Perry. All are welcome to attend for the opening, at 2pm, where light refreshments will be served. The exhibition will continue ‘til 14th Sept. Gallery open 9am to 2pm Tues to Thurs or by arrangement.

The Shelley Kelly Gallery, in the Pat Augustine Cultural Centre,

2023 - An Update at last!

It's been a while since we've put out a blog on this BlogSpot page ... and our Group's Presidents, Secretaries and other office holders have changed over the years. So, to catch up to the present ...

Since September 2022, the Arts Group has a new executive comprising Helen (Pres), Vivienne (Vice Pres), Lesley (Sec) and Geoff (Treasurer).

We've been hard at work and have held quite a few exhibitions from then 'til now, so, here we bring you a few glimpses of collections that have graced our gallery over the past year, starting with the previous Executive under outgoing President, Kris Couerleroi.

If you are travelling through the North Burnett region of Queensland, be sure to drop in and visit the Shelley Kelly Gallery in Mount Perry. The gallery includes our arts and crafts shop, with lovely items, handmade by our members, as well as printed gift and greeting cards, books, canvasses, prints, and more, featuring the wonderful works of our talented locals. Thanks to our local volunteer (for 53 years this year!) Historian, Pat Smith, there is also a History Room in the building, with archives of info, maps, family histories, and photos of the area, stretching back over 200 years. Donations gratefully received.

Mount Perry's Gallery (aka the Shelley Kelly Gallery) is a great place enjoyed by Arts Trail followers, Locals, Travellers, Grey Nomads and weekend cruisers.

Come, enjoy and see for yourself!

Here's some snippets from our exciting exhibitions over the past year...
