School Exhibition opens at Mt Perry Gallery

"The Outback in our Backyards"

The exhibition was curated by Madeline Zoe King, an artist who completed her teaching internship at the Mt Perry State School. Madeline used subjects from school curriculum to inspire the children to create artworks. These included acrylics on canvas, drawings on paper, and an installation of small 10cm x 10cm canvasses to create a 5m long snake along one wall.

The event was opened by the Mayor, Joy Jensen, and was a huge hit with parents and kids enjoying the afternoon.

Final printmaking workshop

On Saturday May 14 we all met again at the fantastic art space above BRAG with tutor Catherine McCue-Boes for a final day of collagraph printmakers.

We had adjusted plates, made new plates, and had an amazing day of learning techniques and pitfalls including some hilarious moments with gold leaf, some delightfully gentle moments with Craytex colouring (as applied by Rhonda, right), and with a lot less black-inked newsprint around the studio!! (you had to be there last time to believe it).

Above, tutor and Lloyd enjoy the reveal. This workshop was a final in a series of 3 co-funded by RADF and thank you to BRAG for the generous use of the press and the space.

The BRAG press is booked for June 1 for any Mt P members or Bundy printmakers who want to come and print their plates. I think we've got some printmakers amongst you...

For the love of art – 100th exhibition in Mt Perry

The latest exhibition opened at the Pat Augustine Cultural Centre on 7 May and continues until June 12.

In 1999 the Mt Perry Hospital building was relocated to this site and renovated to become the Pat Augustine Cultural Centre. In October that year the first exhibition was held in its Art Gallery.

This 100th exhibition is a collection of artworks showcasing the diverse talents and adventurous spirits of our members and volunteers. After almost 20 years the Mt Perry Fine Arts Group continues as a vibrant part of the community, holding at least 5 art workshops throughout the year, hosting the regionally recognised Annual Art Exhibition each September, and managing the operation of the Gallery.

We work in all mediums and styles of art and craft, and our supportive approach encourages all members to jump into the unknown and try new art practices. And we all do so – for the love of art!

Right, President Shelley enjoys a moment with past perry Shire Mayor, Gordon Porter, and Councillor Peter Baker who opened the exhibition. Thanks Peter.

Collagraph printmaking day

Saturday 9th April saw us all head into the great art space at BRAG for our first printmaking day from our prepared collagraph plates. We learned all about the paper, the press, the inks, and the surprises that turn up. Everyone got so much out of the day and our tutor Catherine McCue Boes (pictured) had us all producing successful and adventurous prints by the end of the day.

Everyone is looking forward to the final printmaking workshop, again at BRAG, on May 14.

This workshop was organised by the Mt Perry Fine Arts Group with assistance funding from RADF.

Collagraph Printmaking

Mt Perry Fine Arts- Printmaking workshops RADF Funding Supported

The Mt Perry Fine Arts Group are holding 3 workshops in Collagraph Printmaking and invite any interested community members to join us for a great event.

Collagraph prints are made by relief printing from a "plate" made by placing textured materials on a surface. Materials to make a plate can include cardboard, paper, plastic bags, paper doilies, eggshells, etc., which are placed on a surface and then coated with a sealant. Ink is then applied and it is run through a printmaking press on paper.

This will be a fun series of workshops with local and very experienced printmaking tutor Catherine McCue. The workshops will include learning what is a collagraph print, how to make the plates, and then participants learn to use a printmaking press at the Bundaberg Regional Art Gallery to reveal your creation.

The workshops will be as follows:

Saturday 26 March – Platemaking in Mt Perry. Cost $30.00
Saturday 9 April – Printmaking at the Bundaberg Regional Art Gallery.
Cost $30.00
Saturday 14 May –
Printmaking at the Bundaberg Regional Art Gallery.
Cost $30.00

A bus will be provided for transport to the Bundaberg workshops and is included in the fee. Workshops are $30 each and includes specialised art materials.
