Mt Perry's own Florence Broadhurst

An Exhibition of Elegance

On Sunday 1st March the life and designs of Florence Broadhurst were celebrated at the Mt Perry Art Gallery. The well attended opening afternoon tea was hosted by Mt Perry Arts Group Inc.

Born in Mt Perry in 1899, this flamboyant and eccentric designer, famous for her textile and wallpaper design, established her successful empire at age 61. She worked actively until her death in 1977 at age 78.

This elegant exhibition is the brainchild of Pat Smith, Curator of the Mt Perry Historical Society, with Patty Klaassen of the Mt Perry Art Group Inc with support from Signature Prints including generous access to their archives and provision of displays of textiles and wallpaper.

The exhibition was opened by Constance Porter, long time resident of Mt Perry, who remembers meeting Florence as a teenager.

The exhibition runs until Easter Sunday 5th April at the Mt Perry Art Gallery, Pat Augustine Cultural Centre Heusmann Street, Mt Perry. Opening Times are Tuesday and Friday 9am – 12noon. Wednesday and Thursday 1pm – 4pm. Closed Good Friday. Open Easter Saturday and Sunday 10am - 4pm. Other times by appointment – phone 0407 699 894
