Mount Perry's Inaugural Masquerade Ball - 8th June 2024

Mount Perry came alive for a night, when the creative contributions of dozens of volunteers and around 80 attendees came together in a kaleidoscope of sounds, lighting, colours, handmade finery, decorations and sumptuous food for the town's first ever Masquerade Ball.

Greeted with a cocktail at the door, guests arrived in their gowns, capes, costumes and of course masquerade masks, which did indeed lend an incognito air to many well-disguised folks. Bundaberg entertainer Anthony Sprague welcomed the crowd with guitar and vocals, and local photographer and digital artist took studio portrait shots of participants, which added extra zest to the night.

A three-course dinner was served by the Federal Inn and then the superb sounds of the Max Sportelli Band from the Sunshine Coast & Brisbane (kindly sponsored by Evolution Mining) picked up the tempo. accompanied by local singers - Helen Downs and featuring Susie Jay & Joey Ace. The band also provided the opportunity for a couple of our other, brave, local, fledgling-vocalists to sing with such a band for the first time, providing their own unique 'Arts' experience to be savoured. Congratulations to Yara Barrozo and Shiralee Plowman on their shining performances.

You can see some of the night in this wonderful compilation clip made by young, local photographer and videographer, Jospeh Plowman here: https://youtu.be/MXH1a5OBNJU and here: https://youtu.be/LRvyt1TMrLU

The Ball was declared a success by attendees, who were 'blown away' by the unique atmosphere and vibe of the night.

An exhibition of the masks, handmade finery, gowns and adornments opens at the Shelley Kelly Gallery, Mount Perry on Saturday, 6th July at 2pm and all are welcome to attend. The portrait photos taken on the night will also be unveiled at the opening... but a few sneak peeks appear here.

CAPTURING MOMENTS IN TIME - Art Competition/Exhibition - Mount Perry Arts

IMPORTANT CHANGES & UPDATES

21st Sept 2024.

We're looking forward to our exciting Art Competition and Exhibition "CAPTURING MOMENTS IN TIME" coming up in Mount Perry on the weekend of 11th - 13th October this year.

Just letting you know we have extended the time for entry forms (and works) to be received for this competition, to MONDAY 7th OCTOBER. So, there's still time to enter.
ALSO please note, we have relaxed one of the conditions for entries. Entrants are NO LONGER REQUIRED to attend in person on the night of the event, to be eligible to win prizes. We understand that our gallery is quite a physical distance from some potential entrants, so to make it more accessible and fair, ALL contestants, whether present or not, will now have an equal chance to compete and win in the 11 categories on offer.

There are some great cash prizes and if you haven't looked at the details as yet, we do encourage you to have a look, enter and be part of this exciting event!
Please let your friends know of these changes and touch base with us if entering. Below, for your convenience, is a list of the prize categories. There will also be a People's Choice award.

Don't forget - ALL ARE INVITED - the exhibition of the entries will be held from Friday night 7.30pm - 11th October, through to Sunday 13th October to coincide with the Car & Bike Show and Wood chop events and festivities. An exhibition by the Competition Judges will also open that weekend and run until mid November.

Thanks for your kind attention. Don't miss this great opportunity!

CALLING ALL ARTISTS!
ENTER TO WIN!

BRINGING ARTS TO THE FORE

The Mount Perry Arts Group Inc is putting out the call for artists to enter a large-scale Art Competition & Exhibition, to be held later this year.

Offering category prizes of up to $1000 for 11 classifications of work, the entered art pieces will go on display on October 11th and 12th in Mount Perry, with judging to be held and winners announced at the opening on Friday night.

The town is set to be bustling that weekend, as it is also the time for the Annual Car and Bike Show, as well as the Axemen and Sawyers Woodchop event, both to be held this year on Saturday 12th October. The Art Show will straddle two venues – with the Entrant works going on display in the Community Hall in Mount Perry, while an exhibition of works by the three judges opens in the adjacent Gallery and will run for 6 weeks.

Entitled “Capturing Moments in Time” entries are open in these categories: PORTRAIT OF A LOCAL IDENTITY and OPEN sections, (each with a $1000 1st prize); LOCAL ARTIST section; MINIATURES; INSTALLATIONS; MIXED MEDIUM; AGES 5 TO 9; AGES 10 to 14; AGES 15 to 18; PHOTOGRAPHY and ENCOURAGEMENT AWARD.

The show promises to be a great stimulus for creativity in the local region and beyond, as entries are open to all. The Local Artist section is exclusively for entrants in the North Burnett Region and carries a $500 first prize. As the long-standing efforts of many individuals in communities are valued, especially in regional areas, the Portrait section seeks to immortalise local identities from the North Burnett and capture their painted images for posterity.

Described as “a boon for regional art” the show will encourage the creativity of both established and budding artists, across its wide range of categories.

The judging panel of three comprises renowned artists Colleen Helmore and Sue Robinson who each have an internationally recognised status in the art world, together with the accomplished Holly Milner from the Sunshine Coast, who will be mentored in the specifics of judging by the two, more experienced artists.

Event Co-ordinator June McCotter from the Mount Perry Gallery said the event is already receiving much active interest from galleries, and particularly portrait artists, around the wider area, and that this is ultimately culturally beneficial to the North Burnett region. She expressed the thanks of the Arts Group to the competition sponsors, who are providing a total prize pool of $4,480 across 11 categories.

Entry forms will be distributed more widely in the coming days and are available now through the Mount Perry Arts Group Inc. by contacting the June on 0477 194 605
